Healthy heart during pregnancy

Healthy heart during pregnancy

Pregnancy is a time in a woman's life when cardiovascular diseases may arise, affecting both the pregnant woman and the unborn baby. These include the specific disorders of pregnancy such as preeclampsia, which is caused by high blood pressure. To minimize these risks, you should reinforce your health monitoring and adopt healthy behaviours to protect your heart and the heart of your child.

10 commandments for a healthy heart:

1. Adopt a healthy and balanced diet.
2. Avoid processed and industrialized foods.
3. Drink 1,5 litters of water daily and avoid drinks with caffeine (coffee, tea) or alcohol.
4. Exercise regularly (walking, swimming, dancing, yoga, stretching).
5. Do not smoke and avoid second-hand smoke.
6. Monitor and control your weight, your blood pressure, your cholesterol and sugar (glucose) in the blood.
7. Book frequent prenatal medical appointments throughout the pregnancy and clarify all doubts with your doctor.
8. Take your prescribed medication at recommended doses.
9. Experience a meditation class to minimize stress and anxiety.
10. Establish a regular routine of eight hours of sleep and take frequent breaks to rest throughout the day.

Follow the instructions of your doctor, gynaecologist and/or cardiologist to evaluate your health condition regularly, to obtain personalized guidance throughout the pregnancy and regular monitoring. Take care of your heart!
